Product videos that actually sell on TikTok Shop
The formats that turn scrollers into buyers, and the mistakes to avoid.
TikTok Shop videos have one job: get someone who's scrolling to tap the product and buy. That calls for a different style than brand videos. Here are the formats I see work again and again, plus the mistakes that quietly kill sales.
Formats that sell
Problem, then solution
Start with a problem your viewer recognizes, then show the product fixing it. It's simple, and it works because the viewer sees themselves in the first few seconds.
The honest demo
Show the product actually being used, up close, in a real setting. Real hands, real kitchens and real bathrooms beat studio shots on TikTok.
Unboxing with a first reaction
Opening the package and reacting honestly feels like a recommendation from a friend. Keep it quick and get to the product fast.
"3 reasons I bought this"
A numbered list gives viewers a reason to keep watching until the end, and lets you cover the product's main benefits clearly.
A day with the product
Showing the product as part of a normal routine, like a morning drink or an evening skincare step, helps people picture it in their own life. A wellness drink UGC ad I edited follows this format.
Mistakes to avoid
- A slow start. If the product or problem doesn't show up in the first few seconds, most people are gone.
- Too polished. Videos that look like TV ads often get skipped. Native, creator-style content usually performs better.
- No clear next step. Tell people where to tap. Mention the deal or price if there is one.
- Claims you can't back up. Exaggerated health or results claims can break TikTok Shop's rules and get videos removed. Stick to what's true.
- Only one version. Test several hooks for the same product. Small changes in the first line can make a big difference.
The short version
Show the problem fast, show the product working, keep it real and make buying easy. If you sell on TikTok Shop and need a steady batch of product videos, that's one of the things I make most often.
